The Luiss University is pleased to host the Gala Dinner of the Congress in the prestigious location of Viale Romania. The elegant Aula Chiesa, an ancient church now deconsecrated, will accommodate the participants to share a memorable moment all together.

A special opening of the Temple of Antonio and Faustina, an ancient Roman temple in Rome, adapted as a Roman Catholic church, namely, the Chiesa di San Lorenzo in Miranda or simply “San Lorenzo in Miranda”. It is in the Forum Romanum, on the Via Sacra, opposite to the Regia. Not missing the main altar has a reredos canvas by Pietro da Cortona and Domenichino and the unforgettable view from the secret door at the bottom of the church.

THURSDAY, 14TH OF NOVEMBER
ANCIENT ROME – Colosseum, Roman Forum, Arch of Constantine and Palatine HillMorning half-day tour

The Flavian Amphitheater, also known as the Colosseum, is clearly the symbol of the Roman history and its glorious past. We will guide you inside to admire the place where gladiators and wild animals used to fight and show you how this amazing place worked. You will walk through the Arch of Constantine and across the Roman Forum, the cultural and political center of the Ancient Rome, the deep heart of the Roman Empire. Then we will take you to visit the Palatine Hill, where Rome was legendary founded and where you will be able to see the ruins of the Imperial palaces. The tour will finish by gazing at the breathtaking landscape between the Forum Boarium and the River Tiber.

THURSDAY, 14TH OF NOVEMBER
THE HEART OF ROME – Spanish Steps, Navona Square, Pantheon and Trevi Fountain (walking tour)Morning half-day tour

The Eternal City has always been considered a museum of wonders for all the great monuments it hosts in the inner city: Spanish Steps, Navona Square, the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain. Our expert tour guides will take you through the inner city, starting from Piazza Campo de’ Fiori, seat of a famous open-air market. After a brief break, we will visit Navona Square to admire the artworks of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini.
Our visit then continues towards the ancient temple of pagan divinities, the Pantheon, which today is a Christian Basilica. After we will move to via Condotti, the street of Rome’s most prestigious boutiques, passing through Palazzo Madama, the Column of Marcus Aurelius and Montecitorio. At the end of via Condotti we will find the famous Trevi Fountain, well known for the movie “La Dolce Vita” of 1960. Last but not least, we will lead you to the Spanish Steps, well known for the Trinità dei Monti staircase and for the Barcaccia (the Fountain of the Old Boat).

The Borghese Gallery is located in the middle of the beautiful Villa Borghese. Originally the private collection of a famous art lover, Scipione Borghese, the palace with the famous collection is today one of the main attractions in Rome.
Highlights of the gallery include some of Bernini’s greatest masterpieces (such as Apollo and Daphne), the famous Sleeping Hermaphrodite statue, and paintings by Raphael, Titian and Caravaggio. We complete the tour walking inside the monumental garden, visiting the lake and the beautiful park designed on 17° Century.

VATICAN MUSEUM – Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica Afternoon half-day tour

The tour will start from the Vatican Museums entrance. You will be blown away by the most fascinating museum in the world. We have selected for you the most famous works of art from the huge collection which covers almost 4,000 years of history (from the Egyptians to Contemporary age). Starting at the Court of the Pigna, you will enjoy the scenic view on the Vatican Gardens.
Afterwards, you will go through the Gallery of the Candelabra, the Gallery of Tapestries, the Gallery of the Maps and the amazing Raphael’s Rooms. Finally you will be taken to the breathless Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapeland its famous Renaissance paintings. Leaving the Vatican Museums, you will visit the St. Peter’s Basilica, heart of Christianity, with masterpieces it preserves. The tour will end at the astonishing St. Peter’s Square, a masterpiece made by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

SAN PIETRO IN VINCOLI – San Pietro in Vincoli and Michelangelo’s Moses Evening tour with dinner (from 6pm)

Known to the Most for the very famous Moses of Michelangelo who overlooks the burial place of Pope Giulio II, which to the magister took 40 year to be realised and defined by him “the tragedy of the burial“, it is anyway an important place of devotion because of the presence of the holy vincoli where by St.Peter were enchained.
From 1545, in the right transept of the church you can admire one of the masterpieces of the sixteenth century: Michelangelo’s Moses. The colossal statue carved in 1513 to adorn the tomb that Julius II had commissioned to Michelangelo, was not completed until the death of the pope.

CASERTA AND POMPEI – Royal Palace of Caserta and the excavations of PompeiiTwo days tour

The Royal Palace of Caserta is a former royal residence in Caserta, constructed by the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies as their main residence as kings of Naples. It is one of the largest palaces erected in Europe during the 18th century. Started in 1750, the palace was finished in 1845. It has 5 floors, 1,200 rooms, 1247 windows, including apartments of indescribable beauty, unique rooms of its kind and rooms with rare paintings and collections. The back façade of the building is flanking a long alley with artificial fountains and cascades that connect the Italian Garden to the English Garden.
The excavations of Pompeii are extraordinary material evidence of the ancient world, thanks to the state of preservation of the city, which remained practically intact after the eruption of 79 A.D. erased it from the Vesuvian landscape. The itinerary winds through streets – such as the Via dell’Abbondanza, the most important, lined with houses and the city’s most renowned workshops – public monuments like the amphitheatre and the theatre, up to the famous Villa dei Misteri. The visit will include the most famous buildings but also those recently reopened to the public after long restorations.
